“To guide and nurture young preteens by building their faith in Christ, and helping them connect their faith and life together.”
EarlyTeen Ministry will provide opportunities for this special age group (School Years 7-10) to grow their faith
and worship God. This is a stage for them to link what they learned in Children Sunday School and apply the
biblical lessons in their daily lives. Preteen years are full of curiosity and questions, and we want to guide
them find the“ answers” from the Bible.
At the same time, we want to encourage them to make meaningful friendships with each other, as well as with
teachers and the youth, who can become people that they trust, consult and model after.
This ministry is conducted in English, although most of our leaders are bi-lingual. The target is currently on
the locally born Chinese Kiwis, who are more proficient in English than Chinese, However it also welcomes
new members both believers and non-believers into the group, with a vision to bring them closer to God
during their transition to teen years. We also welcome preteens from other congregations to join if they wish
to, to encourage building of community and relationships with the wider Church family.
(a) EarlyTeen Fellowship (Saturday 7.30 - 9.30pm) – embedded in the Youth Fellowship, but preteens have
their own group during small group discussion time. Earlyteen group is currently led by a team of Youth
leaders in rotation, and these leaders have good relationship with the preteens. Apart from our usual
Saturday night meetings, preteens also join Youth social – bowling, beach trips, picnics, birthday dinners
etc. Occasionally we also gather our early teens to present musical items during Sunday Service – this is an
opportunity for them to use their musical gift and to learn to serve as a team.
(b) EarlyTeen Sunday School (Sunday 1.15 - 3.00pm) – EarlyTeen begin praise & worship with the concurrent service on Sunday, then meeting on Level 1 for EarlyTeen Sunday School. Leaders and early teens have some icebreakers, followed by small group discussion.
(c) Workbook material for the year for early teen members to study from.
(d) We have a team of around 8-10 volunteer teachers, and are hoping to provide them with a small tea party and present at year end as a Thank You.
(e) Most early teens will join Youth Group for their social – cost will most probably be paid by parents; however,
we plan to use budget for special gatherings or events that require resources. We could explore the possibility
of organizing a preteens specific outing during Christmas break and at each end of school terms.
